0. Brief

How does a place get organized in human memory? I collected ten people through a job posting and asked them to draw a map of an amusement park from memory. They all drew differently: the location, type, and number of facilities were all different. The information derived this way was visualized to create a graphic map.

1. Collect

I posted the following on a job posting community and ten people applied.“ I'm looking for someone who can draw a map of the [Lotte World] amusement park based on memory only. I’ll pay 15$.” People took pictures of the maps they drew and posted them on a messenger platform where I communicated with them. Some posted just a single page, while others posted a map that was drawn over two pages.

2. Design

The collected maps went through digital visualization to create a graphic map.

1. Pick colors with Adobe Color

I downloaded photos of attractions drawn on the map from the official Lotte World website and extracted the color palettes of the photos through Adobe Color.

2. Create graphics of Attractions & Amenities with color palette

I created graphics for each attraction by combining five colors selected during the previous stage.

3. Draw the shape of the land and place structures based on the map

I drew the land according to the map and placed the graphics I had created accordingly.

3. Output

Since the work was a graphic map, it was printed so that it could be used as a real map. The indoor map is on the front side, and the outdoor map is on the backside.
