MEMEME
11, 2023 / PRATT Institute / Visual Language A

0. Brief
MEMEME was a discovery process of getting to know myself through the perceptions and eyes of others. I collected various objects related to me from my acquaintances, visualized them in digital form, and transformed them into a physical installation artwork. These elements represent what shapes and defines me.

1. For the first step
For the first step of the project, I created five different outcomes using acrylic paint as the main material. I used various tools to draw my portrait. One important insight I gained from this experience is that even when drawing the same subject, the outcomes can vary depending on the tools used. In other words, I interpreted this as the possibility of being perceived differently depending on an individual's perspective. This led me to question how my image changes based on different perspectives and viewpoints.

2. Visualize
To find the answer, I surveyed my acquaintances about the objects, colors, personalities, and sounds that come to their minds when they think of me. I collected responses from 7 people and combined the elements they provided. I then incorporated the sounds that represent me into the visual representation. The final was showcased on a website.

3. Various elements makes me
The experiment revealed that "I am the only one, but people perceive me in various ways and forms," which implies that I am composed of various elements. To express this concept visually, I considered layered art. By visualizing sound and applying it to related images, I created layered art. The installation involves overlapping transparent film objects to fill the space. This represents the idea that various elements come together to form a solid "me.”
